Adolescent drug use and the role of the media

Drug abuse is on the rise among the youth these days
and the sad fact is that a large number of youths are
among those who are suffering from this addiction.
Among the drugs promoted among the youth,
especially students, are alcohol, ice, tobacco, shisha,
marijuana, heroin, cocaine and snuff etc. While this
trend is having extremely harmful effects on the health
of the youth, their ability to read, write and work is
also being affected. Due to the use of drugs in educational
institutions, it has generally been seen that the mental
abilities of students, especially memory, are affected a lot.

Advertisements
Since the media depends on advertising revenue,
they run ads without thinking about the impact.
Companies that manufacture drug products spend
millions of dollars on attractive advertisements that
portray addiction as a fad. These companies specifically
target young consumers. If a young person escapes the
company of bad friends, he is faced with a web of
attractive but deadly advertisements that are difficult
 to avoid.

Drug promotion in dramas

Second, in dramas and movies, drugs are presented as if

they are part of a necessary status. Although in some

countries, a warning message is also played with such

scenes, but the most effective warning message in the

form of an animated picture and strip in the scene itself.

We cannot eliminate the drug market in one day, but we

can analyze the causes of drug addiction and make the

youth aware of its deadly effects.
